Live Weather

We now have a live weather station at The Lakes At Antioch. The upper left graphic on the blog will take you to Weather Underground where you can check on the local conditions.

The weather station is a Davis Instruments Vantage Vue.

It’s a wireless weather station and was a Father’s Day present.

It was installed Saturday just in time for the impressive thunderstorm on Sunday evening.

Not Quite Sunset

We went out on the lake early evening Tuesday and tried fishing from the kayak.  We caught four fish in less than an hour and that included the time we learned to adjust to the set up and art of fishing from a tandem kayak.  We caught a great picture and thought we would share it with you.

We have a trio of new additions to the neighborhood.

The three young purple martins await the return of their parents.

They parents were very nearby by the way.

Purple Martins  are the largest member of the swallow family in North America.

Lake Cruise

DSC01601
We finally picked up the kayak and did the christening in the big lake.  It’s certainly easy launching beside the gazebo.

For the first time we saw the neighborhood from the water.  It’s quite impressive.

We’ve seen the beaver a couple of times but never saw his home up close, until today.

We paddled the lake perimeter but at 94 degrees it was a bit hot.  Some of the neighbors had a better idea as we saw them jumping in to the lake, kids and dogs alike, in an attempt to cool off.

What a great neighborhood!  The next trip out we’ll have the fishing gear.
